FUEL / CHARGING / COMMUTE · THE DRIVING COST CONSOLE

Editorial policy

Drifftly publishes calculators and explanations about fuel, charging and recurring commute energy spending.

Methods and examples

Tool pages identify inputs, units and arithmetic. Worked examples supply the numbers needed to reproduce a result. Prices and efficiencies in defaults are illustrations, not current quotes or promises about your vehicle. Distance and reporting periods must align before comparing totals.

Efficiency and charging assumptions

MPG values can vary with traffic, weather and driving conditions. Record whether an EV efficiency value includes electricity drawn from the wall. The charging tool applies an added percentage allowance to its base kWh estimate; this is an add-on model, not a conversion from a charger’s measured efficiency. Do not add the same losses twice. The gas-versus-EV tool excludes an added charging-loss allowance.

Sources and scope

Where useful, explanations link to primary resources such as the U.S. Department of Energy. A reference does not imply endorsement. Readers should verify vehicle-specific efficiency and energy rates against relevant records. The site does not automatically import live prices or vehicle data. An energy saving is one category of cost; it does not establish overall ownership savings.

Drafting, checks and corrections

Initial drafts used AI assistance, with worked-example arithmetic checked during development. We do not claim that an expert inspected your vehicle, tariff or household records. To report an error, send its URL, example inputs and expected result. Keep identifying or sensitive documents out of the message. Substantive updates should address both calculations and explanations and use a meaningful review date.

Commercial relationships

Advertising, when present, is separate from tools and educational explanations. An advertisement is not our recommendation. Affiliate or sponsored relationships should be disclosed with the relevant content and must not change calculator results or be described as an independent test.
